Peter Gabriel - Essen, Germany Rockpalast 1978

Ahhhh, the great Mr. Gabriel. You may not know this about DaddyRich but I am a great fan of Peter Gabriel, solo and early Genesis. It sucks becasue if someone asks you your favorite groups and albums and Genesis is an answer you have to spend extra minutes explaining that it's Gabriel-era Genesis (like me) and not the bland pop hit making machine of Phil Collins (no disrespect intended to either Philly or his fans). I am not always enamored of bootlegs from the 70's, but this is Peter so we listen and we love, right? This has the best of his earliest solo efforts as well as the sublime 'The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway' for our eager ears. Also in fine form are versions of 'On The Air', 'Here Comes The Flood' and Daddy's favorite, the often mispelled 'Solsbury Hill' (have you ever REALLY listened to the lyrics? I have). So, please enjoy and I may someday grace this blog with my collection of Genesis rarities, but I'd be the only one who would enjoy them, right?

1. On The Air 4:48
2. Moribund the Burgermeister 5:43
3. Perspective 4:27
4. Here Comes the Flood 4:00
5. White Shadow 5:12
6. Waiting for the Big One 8:08
7. Humdrum 4:13
8. I Don't Remember 5:22
9. Solsbury Hill 5:21
10. Modern Love 4:32
11. The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway 5:32

Your Genesis rarities would be welcomed anytime by more than you know.

Some rare Genesis or live would be much appreciated. Thanks for the live Gabriel.

Thanks for this. Early Genesis is indeed great. I really like Gabriel's solo stuff. I think he took it to another dimension.
You wouldn't happen to have the Music and Rhythm compilation, would you? It has lots of world music musicians as well as Gabriel's studio version of 'Across the River', which I think is unavailable elsewhere.

Couldn't agree more with the other comments. Gabriel era Genesis wins hands down.

Well folks, if you guys like PG and this show, then check on the TV programme from Rockpalast - not this show, but around the same time, in studio - w/o Fripp and pretty much the same track listing.
It´s on e-mule, for free...

Merry Xmas y´all

Great post.. hey, isn't this the show where "I don't Remember" has totally different lyrics? it's been a while since I heard this set.

The band in RockPalast was: Sid McGuinnes in guitar, Tony Levin in bass, Jerry Marotta in drums, Larry Fast in keyboards, Timmy Capello in saxophone and keyboards and Peter, of course.
