Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway Demos

Oh, Peter Gabrie-era Genesis. Just the thought makes me wish I had been born earlier. It's a shame that he's too much of a sacred cow (no insult intended) to stoop to tour with them on this reunion thing they got going. I have read his reasons and can totally understand, but nonetheless it prevented me from buying a ticket. They would have had at least $200-$300 of my money if he had come for the ride. I really have no use for the Phil Collins hits or to hear him sing Gabriel's songs. Not knocking anyone's music tastes - just showing off my idiotic reasoning for this. Enough of that, these demos are from my favorite Genesis album of all. Such epic proportions and depth of emotion that must have launched them miles ahead of their peers upon it's initial release. Can't pick any one favorite from the whole but hearing the songs in embryonic form and even instrumental takes is a pleasure to my old ears. Hope one or two of you kiddies enjoy it to.

The enclosed pics of the inserts will show the track listings for all of you - my hands are tired from typing all night.

Genesis - Lamb Stew

Been a while since I posted any Gabriel-Era Genesis, so I seek to right that wrong. This one isn't particularly hard to find, but I enjoy it quite a lot. There is certainly no shortage of boots from this era of the band, but almost all of them have some atrocious sound and they stay buried in the back of my collection. I recall that a few years back at an import record store that I saw this for over $75.00 and couldn't even get a preview listen (bastards). This illustrates why I love music-sharing so much - had I paid $75 for it then, the only people getting rich would be the store and their bootlegger source (and no one would hear it, except for me - none of my friends enjoy this era of the group). By posting it here, there is a chance that some soul will hear it and go buy the original albums and then the machine gets fed. Either way, a classic show and tour and I hope you all dig it.

When The Wind Blows - Original Soundtrack Album

Here's one you don't see too often and I can't quite remember where I found it - so automatically I give thanks to SFRP, just as a precaution. Since most awesome mp3's come from those fine folks. The talents employed on the songs here is just breathtaking - Squeeze, Roger Waters, Genesis and David Bowie. Damn, that's a nice line-up. I have not had the pleasure of seeing the film and it looks pretty darned hard to come by over here in the U. S. of A. so I may have to wait a while. It sounds quite good actually and I will keep my eyes open for it. Just listen and enjoy, children.

Genesis - Archives Box Set 1967-1975 (4 Discs)

I know, anyone who really wanted this box set probably already has it, agreed. But I am going to begin with the first 2 discs and the beautiful sound of 'The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway' played live to an L.A. audience in 1973. The sound is so crisp and sounds better than many of the concerts I am getting today. Each musician in this band was quite accomplished and Gabriels voice...have I not said enough before about the voice of Mr. Gabriel. Such a voice. The entire - double album - played straight through? Who could write a decent double album now and then go play the whole damn thing live with such precision? Not too damn many. Sure, the other discs are full of highlights and rarities and I may post them, if badgered enough, but the point is to find a comfortable spot and listen to this show - mind blowing stuff.

Genesis - Rock Theatre (1973)

A German-Only release at it's birth, this was apparently their record companies attempt to package the complex Genesis for the average AM/FM radio fan. It seems to me that you either get it with Gabriel-era genesis or you don't, I can't imagine many fans being won over by this and the band themselves parted with Gabriel about 18 months later. They would have indeed been something to see in their time and the pictures from their shows certainly presage later Gabriel-influenced bands and rock theatre in general. Truly a visual spectacle that was backed up by deft musicianship and the inimitable voice/flute/histrionics of the great Mr. Gabriel. Too bad he poo-poo'd the reunion. I was very much looking forward to it. More on the way, my good friends.

Also - found a cool tidbit on the internets -

"Notes: This German release has some great songs and the near 23 minute long Supper's Ready for you listening pleasure. Gabriel's words and Tony Banks music, aided by the rest of the gang, take us on a tour of their mind. Phil has yet to move on up to the vocal mic and fills his percussive roll ably. All the pieces collected here travel well to the stage and the theater-like presentation Gabriel prefers. The from cover photo of our boy the alien, along Mike and his double-neck guitar give us peek of their performance style. The back cover has a few interesting promo's for the likes of The Turtles, Aphrodite's Child and the Yardbirds and more. A nice piece for the true Genesis collector."

Genesis - The BBC Recordings 1970-1972

I am really glad that so many kind folks have encouraged DaddyRich to put up some of the classic Genesis rarities that are in my collection. Seeing and hearing their beginnings will really serve to make one weep to see what they became. But I guess it really all boils down to money in the music business, right? Oh wait, you say Peter Gabriel did his thing and never compromised and STILL made loads of cash? Interesting. Oddly enough, one of the better stories about their origin and break-up was on VH1 a few years ago and I highly recommend anyone watch it if it plays again. Enough of me and my recommendations, here is a great early BBC collection of the boys at their most experimental. Although I much prefer the 'Lamb Lies Down On Broadway' era Genesis, this stuff is too delciate and rare not to share with my great friends this time of year. This is just the beginning of these posts, more to come. Enjoy.
Yet another morning where I am in a hurry to Richie ready for school on time - last day before Christmas break for the little one's! Come on by today and hang out while DaddyRich plays the first disc of the Genesis Archive with the live performance of 'The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway' while he cleans the house. It is a sight to see.

track lists on the back disc scans and no more time to type. Hope you all enjoy.
