The Beatles - The River Rhine Tapes


Great selections from the 'Let It Be' and 'Get Back' sessions-era. Not a whole lot of Beatle-banter on this one, many boots of this era have endless studio chatter and clearly show the band falling apart. Although I value those editions as well, it gets kind of depressing to listen to. This one is just chock full of great versions of soon-to-be classics, God they are missed. The best part of this package it seems universally agreed upon is the emergence of George Harrison as a song-writig force to be reckoned with. This one (actually is part of a 3 disc set) has some wonderful sound quality and is worth many listens on your stereos children, more Beatles to come.

The Beatles - Sink in the Can


Some more Beatle goodness from the 1968-69 era of the band. Near the inevitable end that was soon to pass. This time frame for the band is among my favorites (hard to beleive they were only around for about 6-7 years on the scene) and is rich with outtake material. Doesn't hurt either that 'Abbey Road' is my second favorite album of theirs - anyone guess the first? Also, as a cool side note to this boot, tracks 7-16 are Ringo drumming for a Cat Stevens session.As ever, all are welcome to post any good finds (from any blog-related band) in the comments. The Beatles - Revolution (Bootleg)



One of my favorite Beatle collections of scraps and such. This is demos and incidental tracks from around 1965-1968, with some great quality sound, considering what I had been expecting. Early versions of 'We Can Work It Out', 'Julia' and an alternate 'Across The Universe', among other gems make it worth your while, for sure. Oh, so many more to come.... I just got the strangest feeling of deja vu wth this post. Did I already do this one? I checked my list and can't find it - maybe since I have been meaning to post this one for a while. Strange.

The Beatles - Casualties



Yet another Beatle album for you fine folks. This one has some interesting takes, outfakes and versions from other countries. It reminds me of a favorite album from my youth, the great 'Rarities' which I played till the record hurt. My first rarities package and started a life-long addiction to these types of things. Overall a very enjoyable album and you already know there are many more to follow, so stay tuned.

For some reason, the back cover scan has been tilted to the side and I am in too big of a rush today to take it to Photoshop and rotate it to save it when you kind folks can open it and do it yourselves. But I will get to fixing it soon.

The Beatles - Revolution Bootleg


Ah, the gift of music at Christmas time. I do love me some Beatles rartities any time of the year, actually. This is definitely one of the better boots out there and includes some rare gems. We have included here the great David Frost show versions of 'Revolution' and 'Hey Jude' as well as crucial demos and home recordings and we can all just ignore Yoko on the 23 minute ( ! ) long 'Revolution # 9 ' which I could never stomach anyway. Please share this one with all your Beatle-fan-friends and look foward to more from DaddyRich in the future.

The Beatles - Songs, Pictures & Stories



One of my favorite releases on the Vee-Jay label from back in the day (1964, even before my time) and, also one of the most often bootlegged of their catalogue. Early Lennon/McCartney originals interspersed with some R&B gems of the time make for a nice outing. I have so very many Beatles' records/dics and am tempted to begin posting some rarities for you kind folks coming soon, beginning with this one and following (hopefully tomorrow) with the collection of Christmas records they did. I remember sitting in my room as a youth and listening to these songs (albeit on a different record) on my Bee Gee's portable record player - with the Brothers Gibb in all their sequinned glory on the front and singing my 8 year-old lungs out. Ah, the memories - they fade when you get old like me, you know.

Paul McCartney - The Nashville Sessions 1974

Ah, more solo Beatle goodness for you all. These are reportedly the first sessions with Wings recorded in Nashville 1973-74 and this disc is interspersed with sessions for songs to be released with a film that never saw the light of day 'One Hand Clapping' and judging by some of the movies the Beatles found themselves involved with at this point, maybe we are all better off for it. I, of course, love nearly all Beatle music so I hope you will as well.

The Beatles - Love (2006)

Here's a special one that's a request by a pretty lady and we all know that DaddyRich is a pushover (ask my kids). I imagine this one'll set a land speed record for link-acide but here it is. An apt description was on the internets... Also, I have heard many Beatle albums and have only heard this one enough to really appreciate the sound quality of the remastered tracks - what the hell is track #8?

"It begins with a twittering of birdsong lifted from "Across the Universe." And once the triple-tracked a capella harmonies of "Because" enter, followed by snatches from "A Hard Day's Night" and "The End," leading into a fired-up "Get Back," it becomes obvious that this is far more than just another Beatles compilation. This is Love, conceived by the Fabs' former producer George Martin and son Giles as a stageshow soundtrack to Cirque de Soleil's Las Vegas spectacular of the same name, but appears to have taken on a life of its own. Whereas the Beatles' last release, 1, delivered the (over?) familiar hits in a nice, simple package, Love is a mélange of the familiar and obscure, all literally mixed together in one 78-minute audio collage which succeeds in reminding the listener just why the Beatles truly are, as Lennon put it, "toppermost of the poppermost." There's no new Beatles material per se, but the songs are all approached differently--some are cut together in a flawlessly mixed medley (check out "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!/I Want You/Helter Skelter"), some reassemble different backing tracks and vocal performances to create new spins on old classics; but all the songs are revitalized considerably. Even in its weakest moments (which probably work better in the context of the show itself), Love is still a formidable prospect, and one has to admire Martin's willingness to go out on a limb with such a project. While purists may complain that the cut 'n' paste nature of the project is simply tampering with perfection, at the very least it'll make them reach for the originals and enjoy them all over again. For newcomers and everyone else, it makes a fine listen, both in its sonic clarity (the actual tracks are the best they've sounded on CD) and audacious nature. --Thom Allott"
