Bob Dylan - Masterpieces Disc 1 of a 3 Disc Set
I have been waiting for a long time to put a Dylan album here (more like too pre-occupied with other music) and now have the chance. Here on my 200th post!!!! Anyway, I love Bob Dylan's music and since I posted Beck today as well I figure I may as well put up the progenitor and the protege. I could be wrong but sincerely believe Beck is the heir-apparent to Mr. Zimmerman's mantle of folk hero. Although Beck displays more musical variety and versatility, these things were more readily available to him and not Dylan because of great leaps in technical musical applications. But I digress... This first disc in the amazing box set contains a number of every fan's favorites and the others are just as chock full, I just wanted to post a Dylan sampler here and see if anyone wanted me to post the rest (like my Cult Box Set posts, remember those?), so send an old man a message and I will get right on it. Also, surprise surprise, I have a LOT of Dylan alternates/outtakes/demos - including the ridiculously large 26 disc 'Jewels & Binoculars' set that only the most hearty fan would appreciate (don't even ask me to post that behemoth). Enjoy and feel free to leave a comment.

Camper Van Beethoven - Camper Vantiquities
The great Camper Van needs no introduction from this old fart so I leave it to the handy pundits at cduniverse.
"CAMPER VANTIQUITIES is a collection of rarities, outtakes, and B-sides (including the excellent VAMPIRE CAN MATING OVEN EP), and is compiled from material recorded in the mid-1980s (but released by IRS in '93). Nevertheless, it displays a focus and sophistication (especially in the significant songwriting chops of David Lowery) not evident on the band's earlier, zanier releases. In this way, the album looks ahead to the clarity Camper would achieve on OUR BELOVED REVOLUTIONARY SWEETHEART and KEY LIME PIE. "Never Go Back" and "Seven Languages" show Lowery's development in the way the songs marry narrative to hooks. The lazy country of "Guardian Angels," the electro-new wave of "Ice Cream Everyday," and the warped, Eastern European folk of "Processional" prove the band had lost none of its facility for stylistic whiplash. Titles like "We Workers Do Not Understand Modern Art" and "We Eat Your Children" confirm that the band's quirky humor is fully intact. CAMPER VANTIQUIES is an intriguing sampler of a band en route from slap-dash underground beginnings to establishing an assured voice."

Beck - 1992 Demo Tape (Buck Fuck, Iowa)
Another wonderful little slice of demo heaven for DaddyRich. I have already expressed my love for the music of the worlds most famous non-insane Scientologist. A lot like Sublime did around the same time - he mixed together seemingly disparate musical elements and made them beautiful. Blues, hip-hop, electro-funk, folk and so many more styles pieced together just right. There are a few other early Beck demo tapes that I will be posting soon for you kind people. So stay tuned. Also - pay to see the man in concert if you can - I missed a great show last year (due to serios flu) and watched the webcast and it was seriously dope. Daddy wouldn't lie to you.
"Tough Fuckin' Shit" (3:49)
"Fuck You Up and Get High" (0:52)
"Satan was Way Cool" (2:38)
"Blah Blah Blah Blah" (1:43)
"Mmmmmmmmmm" (2:16)
"When the Water Will Take Back the Land" (2:30)
"Run from the World" (1:57)
"In This World" (3:32)
"That Highway Won't Get You to Heaven" (2:54)
"Ace of Spades" (2:50)
"She was a Beautiful Woman" (2:42)
"I've Just Seen a Facelift" (1:53)

Live - Mtv Unplugged
I think I am putting this up here just to annoy some folks. Live is one of the bands that I still greatly enjoy and have much respect for - while most folks just slag them. It's easy to dislike them for what some may see as bombast and over-earnestness in their songs. To me, that translates as honesty and sincerity. True, many albums later they may not have topped 'Throwing Copper', but how many bands never even have one classic album? This concert has many of their best songs and after listening to it again last night, it still sounds fresh and relevant. Just one of the many perks of blogging - putting up music you really dig, even if no one else does. I may even start a new thread of albums that I am the only one I know (or is willing to admit) really likes. Hmmmmmm....

Richard Pryor - That Nigger's Crazy (Disc 2 of 'And It's Deep, too')
My first Richard Pryor album in my wayward youth and it forever changed my mind and use of language. I blame Richard for all the cussing I do in my everyday conversations - 'motherfucker' is a word I use at least 20 times a day. This particular nugget isn't from a vinyl rip like most of my other Pryor joints, it is from the amazing 'And It's Deep, Too' 9 disc set that was long overdue and welcomed by me (and so many others) as a gift from above, much like Richard himself. I am playing with the idea of putting the whole set here, so keep your eyes open.

David Bowie - BBC Concerts UK 1969-1972
This is a tough one to find accurate information on, folks. I have had it for a few years but have never found it listed in Bowie's releases and bootlegs. It seems like it may have had something to do with the proposed (and ultimately, pulled from distribution) Bowie BBC 3 disc set that Bowie eventually released himself. The tracks do not match up and there is no interviews on this so who knows? One thing for sure - it's Bowie and it kicks ass. 14 tracks that include some of my all-time Bowie favorites like 'Wild-Eyed Boy From Freecloud', 'I'm Waiting For The Man' and 'Rock & Roll Suicide'. Hope you enjoy the disc and, as always, much more Bowie in the future.

Hello everyone. Maybe you can help me here with this little problem I have. I do really enjoy keeping this blog up-to-date but - since the advent of rapidshare.com and the pending demise of rapidshare.de I will not be re-posting any of the files from the old rapidshare.de to the new site. Too much work and I don't really have the time. I am sure with enough kind requests I will re-post some of them for you good friends to share. But I am not going to spend time moving almost 200 files and uploading them (again, mind you) - just too much to do. Also - I am lucky enough to have many people commenting (and some even say 'thanks') but if you leave your comment on a post I made 3 months ago then I may just have to ignore it if you are expecting a response. To rectify this I have tried to get a 'shout box' added to my page but I am an old fart who is apparently not as handy with his Mac as he once liked to believe and cannot place it correctly. I will be taking suggestions and helpful comments (at the most recent post please and specify the album in your comment and I will look into it). As it has been for me when I check my comments (they are automatically e-mailed to me) they are not specific about what album they are referring to. So , basically anyone who has been bitching about the free music (you know who you are) you can kiss my ass and for those who have been kind - you are much appreciated and are the reason I do this. To answer a few questions I have received lately -
1. I am not really all THAT old, I just am a cranky guy.
2. Regarding the Gwen Stefani comments I posted - when I made a mention of 'a girl I was once madly in love with' - probably none of you knew her but she HAS visited this page. Mystery solved - you nosy kids. Plus, I am happily married.
3. I have about 2 1/2 500 GB drives worth of music at the moment but am getting more everyday.
4. I do have a life other than sitting around looking/sharing music - but I DO enjoy this.
p.s. Much love to all who have given thanks and more music tomorrow!!!!
Sublime - Everything Under The Sun Box Set (3 Discs)
I have previously mentioned my love for this band here before and will reitterate for all. When they were playing it was always a good time no matter where we had to go to see them, never once let down. Not too many bands that I have seen live were as on-point as these guys were. I haven't really seen anything on here I didn't already own, but not too many folks are as obsessive as DaddyRich about these things. Brad Nowell was a genius and an idiot and the world is that much poorer for his being gone. Go buy the box. Here's a little from the internets -
"Sublime's musical bouillabaisse drew on punk, folk, hip-hop, and reggae to make a soundtrack for a party attended by skaters, rastas, hippies, fratboys, and gangstas alike. It's no surprise, then, that a posthumous Sublime rarities box would result in perhaps the band's most eclectic offering yet. Composed of three CDs and a DVD of live performances and interviews, the collection follows Sublime from its origins as a band heavily influenced by the roots reggae of Bob Marley, the spiritual dub-punk of Bad Brains (a slew of covers of both artists attest to Sublime's fandom), and the righteous singalong fury of the Clash into a polished, commercially successful pop band with an infectious party-hearty vibe. The various outtakes, acoustic demos, live jams, and remixes (one of which features fellow Long Beach County brother Snoop Dogg) here bring into focus a band truly taken with the changing power of music, even if its mission was merely to ensure that everyone be allowed to follow their God-given right to an unfettered good time."

Rolling Stones - More Outtakes Vol. 2
First off, thanks to chocoreve for sharing his great collection with us all. Longtime friends of the blog know my main goal is looking for alternates/demos and rarities that most people don't have. This is a great compilation from one of the best bands ever and when I find more I will definitely put them up here.

Devo - Hardcore Devo Vol. 2 1974-1977
The Hardcore Devo albums are a collection of 4-track basement demos recorded by the band between 1974-1977. Many tracks are earlier versions of some of Devo's best known tracks, which would later be re-recorded and used on subsequent Devo records [eg. 'Jocko Homo', 'Mongoloid']. However, a majority of the tracks on the two albums are demos which were never re-used and remained unreleased until the Hardcore Devo compilations.
Volume Two is described as even more 'Hardcore' than Volume One with more 'experimental' tracks, but not without its share of 'Classic Devo', with their trademark sound already showing.

Spidey - Super Stories
Anyone who knows me can tell you that I am quite the comic book geek and I am fine with that. This is one of those Marvel Comics "Adenture Records" from the 1970's which play pretty much like a cartoon without the television. Many of us who were young children in the 1970's did not have televisions in our rooms so this was as close as many of us got. It's 2 great things in one - Spidey and Vinyl!!! You cannot go wrong.

Nine Inch Nails - Fixed EP
Not a whole lot behind this little gems inclusion today beside the fact I was just playing it last night and was impressed at how well it has aged. I was a bit perplexed with this for a minute after the brilliant Pretty Hate Machine (Broken took a little while to grow as well) but I got over it quickly.
A quick blurb -
"Having caught the public's attention with his catchy, chart- topping PRETTY HATE MACHINE, Trent Reznor was free to experiment with music less accessible to the mainstream. While his more fickle fans were disappointed with BROKEN, the faithful heard in it Reznor's true genius. Dark and edgy, BROKEN cuts the silence like a dirty knife--no singalong anthems here. Only hard-hitting rhythms and no-holds-barred metal riffs flavor this sophomore effort. In BROKEN one can hear the artist maturing and simplifying his craft; Reznor succeeds here without relying on the trappings of pop formulas. The product of a burst of creative energy, BROKEN spawned a companion release of remixes, titled FIXED. From the tight, rapid-fire succession of chords that begins "Pinion" to the beautiful and dreamy jingling guitar of "Help Me I Am in Hell," BROKEN proved that Reznor was to remain a force in the alternative music scene."

The Muppet Show - 25th Anniversary Collection : Music, Mayhem & More!
Who among us (old farts, that is) doesn't fondly recall the family gathering around the old television around dinner time to watch The Muppets? A very warm memory for most all of us. Although as I grew older I didn't really get too much out of the Muppet Movies after the first 2. I grew wiser and realized why I did not get anything was because I was no longer their target audience (sigh), thus an official 'old fart'. I have half-a-mind to go and buy the dvd set of this wonderful series but it is, at the moment, QUITE cost-prohibitive. Until I can get those, this music will suffice and bring a smile whenever played - and I hope it will do the same for you and yours.

Various Artists - Brats On The Beat: Ramones For Kids
These kids discs totally kick ass over what we had when I was a pup. The kind folks at SFRP had this available and Daddy could not resist sharing it here with you fine folks. Here's a little blurb -
"is Ramones cover album is by Go-Kart Records (USA/EUROPE). It's titled Brats On The Beat: Ramones For Kids. Bill Maher - Be More Cynical
Ok, so this one has dated a bit. It was done before the original Bush/Gore elections in 2000 - but the jokes are still on-point and make me laugh even today. The thing with Maher is that you either love him or hate him, he doesn't seem to provoke indifference. Obviously I am in the 'love' camp - for his comedy at least. Amazingly funny observations of both candidates and an all-time classic look at Big Tobacco and Big Government. Please do your brain a favor and give a listen. This classic comedy thread thing is getting fun and I have a lot more just waiting for you.

Jane's Addiction - Live Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre July 23, 1991
I posted this because I was cleaning up the old blog the other day and couldn't believe that I had not posted more Jane's Addiction already. There is just so much damn good music that I sometimes forget to keep putting up new bands each week, it gets so easy to get caught up when people request 'just one more' from a previous band post. This is yet another group I have unbounded love for, the lyrics and the music are so perfectly married that I am glad they are still around (although I haven't realy listened to 'Strays' yet, I am afraid to be disappointed and have been putting it off...) because most great bands don't last half as long as they did, even before their first hiatus. Another disc to thank Tracy for, she kept playing it until it grew on me - so thanks. A great live show from one of the best ever - another feaky L.A. psychedelic band, I am sensing a pattern here. I should mix it up a bit on the next post...

Various Artists - The Massive Sounds Of Rap Legends Archive (3 Discs)
You know DaddyRich couldn't stay away from the old school for too long, right? I could find no information on this one - so my apologies in advance for the lack of cover photo's and such. The inclusion of some of these rappers whom I have never heard of leads me to believe that this is a U.K release of some sort. Also, the inclusion of Tupac and B.I.G. leads me to believe that they whoever pieced it together has no real idea of what 'old school' means - but I digress. Whether those cuts are a detraction from the whole I will let you good people decide - I can say that overall I dig it. I am usually always grateful for any document (however bad sounding or hastily put together) from that wonderful golden era of music. The odd numbering of cuts leads me to believe I have an incomplete copy of this, but any b-boy would agree that SOME of this is a lot better than NONE of it. As ever, if someone else has some information they would like to share - please do, it's always welcome. Peace.

Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals - Maison de la Radio (Studio 104), Paris, France (2 Discs)
Man, I really wanted to hate Ben Harper. When I first began downloading music online my first searches were for hard-to-find reggae albums I needed for my collection. Mainly Peter Tosh songs were what I was looking for and I have a long-standing aversion to folks (especially newcomers) covering classics - it seems like something you have to earn before it's okay with me. Pretty arrogant, I know but that is how it goes with Daddy. Whenever I did a search for Tosh's music I would always see Harper's name on there because he did a cover of 'You Can't Blame The Youth' - The nerve of this guy! So, I dutifully ignored all his music at that point (1998) and scoffed when told he was actually a real talented cat who did no diservice to the original jam. As the years passed by I heard bits and pieces and eventually grew to dig Jack Johnson's music - you can see where this is going, right? One thing lead to another and here we are today. This is one of my all-time favorite live albums, period. The crown, the sound and the sheer musicainship displayed is overwhelmingly amazing. Really, not enough praising superlatives can be applied to this - listen for yourselves and my most humble apologies to Mr. Harper and the rest of the Innocent Criminals - I judged you wrong.
Set I:
1. She's Only Happy In The Sun
2. Excuse Me Mr.

Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions Of Radiohead
This right here is what's known as a 'capital idea' - I want to shake the hand of whoever thought of these. There is a series of these with music by groups like The Cure, Weezer and many others. My oldest was born the same year 'OK Computer' was released and I thought, even then, how wonderfully melodic it was and played it quite often when we were together (as in 'always') and he really enjoyed it. The blurb on their page says
"Rockabye Baby! transforms timeless rock songs into beautiful instrumental lullabies. The delicate sounds of the glockenspiel, vibraphone, and other instruments will lull your little one into a sweet slumber. These versions of Radiohead are sophisticated enough for people of all ages, but sweet enough to introduce your child to rock’s smartest band. Their album Kid A imagines the scope and power of music created by a newborn child. What will your baby dream about while drifting off to these serene interpretations of Radiohead’s best-loved songs?"
Please support these enterprising folks and purchase many of their discs - they are doing a great service.
1 No Surprises
2 Let Down (Daddy's favorite Radiohead song, in case you were wondering...)
3 Subterranean Homesick Alien
4 Airbag
5 Paranoid Android
6 Knives Out
7 Karma Police

Bill Cosby - Why Is There Air?
Ah yes, back to the classic comedy sharing. Cosby is, of course, an obviuos choice - although nowadays a seemingly over-safe one to some. This was the first Cosby album I heard as a kid and you cannot argue with the man's genius at telling stories. He may seem to be a bit of anachronism and comedy-laureate now (by his own actions). He first seemed to fall out of touch, to me, when he decided he had to be the one to chastise Eddie Murphy for his language. That was an arrogant move but I believe his motives were good and he thought he was trying to help the youth (like me) who were constantly quoting Murphy's performances. Any well-rounded comedy education has to include Cosby as one of the triumvirate of the long comedy career legends - Cosby, Richard Pryor (oh so much Richard Pryor coming soon) and George Carlin. Many other great comics but they didn't have the same staying power - usually owed to their own self-destruction (Lenny Bruce comes to mind...). There are plenty of comics today who would look at Bill and his refusal to work "blue" (as it were) and immediately think him a dinosaur, but those would be fools. That to me, is like rap music fans who began listening when N.W.A. came out and thought nothing came before them. With that lack of historical perspective you end up with one-note comics and rappers like Eminem - but I digress. So - much more classic and new comedy to come for you and your friends to enjoy.

Audioslave - Live In Cuba 2005
An online review has it pretty well expalined...
"This past May, Audioslave made international headlines by becoming the first American rock band to ever perform in U.S.-embargoed Cuba. More than 60,000 screaming fans stormed Havana's Anti-Imperialist Plaza to catch the May 6th show and the band didn't disappoint. The multi-Platinum, critically acclaimed band gave an absolutely electrifying performance, tearing through a free two-and-a-half hour show. The historic event is captured on the Epic/Interscope release LIVE IN CUBA, a deluxe 18-song double-disc package that includes a DVD featuring a 30-minute documentary, live concert footage and an additional TV special on the event, along with a bonus live CD taken from Audioslave's recent AOL Sessions performance.
Audioslave (driven by Chris Cornell's stirring vocals, Tom Morello's innovative guitar and the razor-sharp rhythm section of bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk) treated the packed-house crowd to a mix filled with hits from their multi-platinum-selling 2003 debut (Cochise, Like A Stone), tracks from new album Out of Exile-which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart-(Your Time Has Come,Doesn't Remind Me), and a few jaw-dropping surprises (Soundgarden's Black Hole Sun, Outshined, and Spoonman, along with Rage Against the Machine's Bulls On Parade). It's worth noting that LIVE IN CUBA is the first and only recording to feature ex-Soundgarden vocalist Cornell and ex-Rage members Morello, Commerford and Wilk performing songs from their former bands.
The event was organized by the U.S. Treasury Department and the Instituto Cubano de la Musica and took place, ironically enough, in a plaza built five years ago as a place for mass protest against the US government. In a recent interview with Billboard, Morello recalled the monumental show. "We had no idea if it was going to be 70 people or 70,000," he said. "It turns out it was the latter-many of whom were clearly fans of the band. A lot of them were singing along, some were making a mosh pit, some were salsa-ing, some were pogo-ing. A lot of them just couldn't believe it was really happening."
Also - this disc contains only the first 10 tracks performed at the show, if anyone happens to have the full mp3/dvd rip - please help a brother out.

2. Your Time Has Come
3. Like A Stone
4. Spoonman

Various Artists - Trash! The Roots Of Punk 1976 (Mojo Magazine)
You gotta love Mojo Magazine - although I have never read a single issue I can't get enough of their great compilations. If I ran a magazine these are the kinds of things I would love to give readers. Although some of these tracks pre-date 1976, the spirit is what they are intending to represent and they most certainly do it here. I highly recommend this little collection if you have any curiosity about early punk rock and maybe someday I will make a compilation where it all went wrong (typical old man complaint). Until then get some clothespins and put them somewhere painful and break out that eyeliner (it worked for Iggy).

Queen - The Unobtainable Royal Chronicle Vol. 1
Since we can all agree that Queen is universally loved and respected - I have been requested to post some more rarities. This is a great place to start, The Unobtainable Royal Chronicle has such a regal ring to it, does it not? Some great rarities here that have proven difficult to find for some and impossible for others. The first 12 tracks are some hard-to-find Queen songs that we are all familiar with, in one form or another and the final tracks are Freddie Mercury performing as "Larry Lurex" (don't ask because I don't know) and 3 tracks from Brian May's pre-Queen band, Smile. I have many more Queen rarities and boots laying around here in my office and hard drive and will post more as we continue along here my friends.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Live Rare Remix Box (Import)
I had never even heard of the existence of this 'box' until I downloaded it last year and although it's not the gretaest thing ever - it's still damn good. The main part of having this would be for the unreleased songs and live cuts, I could do without the remixes (which are so rarely any good). So , my information on this comes from online -
Amazon has this to say-
"1994 Warner Brothers release featuring 13 tracks, all non-album cuts! Includes live versions of 'Give It Away', 'SuckMy Kiss', 'I Could Have Lied' & 'Nobody Weird Like Me', the'Coneheads' hit 'Soul To Squeeze', the cult fave 'Fela'sCock', their interpretation of the Stooges' 'Search &Destroy', mixes of 'Give It Away' and 'If You Have To Ask'and more! Each disc comes in a separate standard jewel case &all three are housed together in an embossed, colorful, CD-sized slipcase box."

Bert & Ernie's Greatest Hits
One of the many sublime joys of having your own blog is to post waht pleases you. I love Sesame Street and watching my sons watching Sesame Street has brought me the greatest amount of joy. Scientific studies have concluded (conclusively) that if you do not enjoy Sesame Street you are either , 1. stupid or 2. in need of serious help (to prevent the oncoming stupidity). Hopefully someone with children around their house has been looking for this one and I have helped you. These are always great and if I ever get the dvd's I may post them as well, but the price is pretty steep at the moment. So listen ans try to remember a much simpler time in your lives that held more laughter and wonder.

Queen - Rock In Rio 1985
Need any more be said? It's Queen in 1985, at the peak of their powers and in front of hundreds of thousands of crazy Brazilians. Oh, if I had been old enough to see Queen perform then, but at 14 I didn't have the money or the passport necessary for the deal. This is a great document of the legendary band and the sound is simply awesome considering the date and technology available at the time. I have a nasty feeling that much more Queen will be available this month - thanks to all who had writtne so kindly asking for more. Daddy can't refuse the kind requests.
