Happy Modays - Greatest Hits

You know, with old age creeping up on me it's almost hard to remember just how revolutionary these chaps were with their sound. I had never been a fan of dance music and had never imagined that it could be made to my liking. Mind you, not liked enough to get up and actually dance much. When they were on their game - no one from that era made better music. Sadly, they were off their game and on many other terrible things quite often. The rhythm section is very under-rated and here is shown to great effect. Shaun Ryder, though has always been the fulcrum upon which this band lived and (often) died. I believe he is represented in top form here (excepting the cover of Thin Lizzy's 'The Boys Are Back In Town') and it's easy to recall that he is still considered a legend by folks other than Tony Wilson. 'Kinky Afro', 'Loose Fit', Bob's Yer Uncle' and '24 Hour Party People' make this collection worth the money but it's an all-around solid effort and a great capsule of a wonderful time. Also, it holds up well for music that used to be essential whilst smoking herb. Even minus the sweet leaf this still gets many listens in my house.
