David Bowie - Divine Symmetry (BBC Acoustic Sessions 1997)

This will be the first of a few re-ups on files that had many downloads that were killed all too soon. I am among the huge number of fans that feel any Bowie is good, but acoustic Bowie is better. Among the many acoustic-related discs I have here, this is ranked near the top for the breadth and depth from the man's sometiemes daunting catalogue. As an added bonus, we have here another acoustic compilation containing various live and studio tracks of Bowie performing his greats. This one has a few repeats and a varying bit rate but is overall a worthy companion piece. At least until I sift through the many acoustic performances in my collection and make a definitive 'Acoustic Bowie at The Ape'. Cheers.

Bauhaus - Ziggy Stardust 12" Single



Just a little goody thrown in here for all you good children. One can never tire of either Mr. Bowie or Bauhaus, right? Of course I am right. Daddy is always right. This cover of the classic Bowie song was so well-crafted that my wife, a life-long Bowie fan but not alternative music-minded (go figure) didn't even know that it wasn't him. She has since learned to loathe Bauhaus, and about 99.9% of everything else I love to listen to. It's a good thing our love is stronger than conflicting musical tastes, eh? Only 3 songs on here so it's a quick listen, but eminently enjoyable. Also, only the nerdiest of us Bowie fanatics will get the allusion on the cover, but I do love it.

David Bowie - Vampires Of Human Flesh (Scary Monsters Outtakes)



Yet another Bowie, for my good friends here. This particular gem is one the rarest of beasts - a great sounding outtakes session of late 70's David Bowie. If you wanted I could innundate you with some crap-sounding sessions but my standards prevent me from doing so. And of course, the search is always ongoing for great sounding sessions from the man. So, I continue to dig deep into the Bowie archives and plan on seeding a few throughout our time here together. Hope you all enjoy and keep your eyes and ears open for much more. At the bottom of this post is an excellent insert which explains in detail the sessions and songs. Did you know that 'Scary Monsters' was a song he had written with the thought of offering it to Johnny Cash? How interesting would that have been?

Here's one you don't see too often and I can't quite remember where I found it - so automatically I give thanks to SFRP, just as a precaution. Since most awesome mp3's come from those fine folks. The talents employed on the songs here is just breathtaking - Squeeze, Roger Waters, Genesis and David Bowie. Damn, that's a nice line-up. I have not had the pleasure of seeing the film and it looks pretty darned hard to come by over here in the U. S. of A. so I may have to wait a while. It sounds quite good actually and I will keep my eyes open for it. Just listen and enjoy, children.

David Bowie - Live With Lou July 8 , 1972




This is a good one here, although Lou is only on a few tracks. It's from such a great period for both of their music, although the drugs and sleepless nights would soon take a terrible toll on them both. Just look at that setlist! 'Ziggy Stardust', 'Hang On To Yourself', 'Changes' and 'Space Oddity' among so many more classics - if It had a version of 'Rock & Roll Suicide' like the film did, I would be in heaven. Although they look a little too close for comfort onthe back, it was a strange time and they make for strange bedfellows, no? Just enjoy the awesome music with these two geniuses.

As far as synchronicity goes, my iPod just began playing 'Panic In Detroit' so this one has been decreed by fate. David Bowie - The Superstar Concert Series



Yes, even more Bowie for my good friends here at the Ape. This little lovely is a combination of two older shows that was broadcast as part of the "Superstars Concert Series" in 2002 on the radio. God only knows where and what station because every time I turn on the radio (granted, not too often - I have enough music to keep me busy right here) all I hear is commercials. This was another great find by every music-lovers friend, AlienOnAcid - about whom not enough kind words can be said. There is a nice fillet of David's career on this and fans will be pleasently pleased by the song selection and performance. Enjoy, and of course - more Bowie in the pipeline.

David Bowie - Images 1966-1967


A big thanks to UncleBill for sharing his vinyl of this with the world. I had never even heard of this one until last week. Early Bowie is always a great addition to anyone's collection and I am sure you'd agree. It is an amazing treat to hear the gestation of the legend as he hits and misses on a few of these, whilst always remaining Bowie. I have had a good portion of these tracks for years on various bootlegs and can vouch that many of these versions are as clean as are available anywhere. I believe some of these were also on the Deram Anthologies (hey! maybe I should up those?) and other more widely available boots. But nothing compares to the joy/horror of hearing 'The Laughing Gnome' and wondering to yourself "What drugs was this guy on and where do I get some?". As ever, I am glad to share my Bowie rarities with you good folks and, rest assured, many more to come.

David Bowie - BBC Concerts UK 1969-1972


This is a tough one to find accurate information on, folks. I have had it for a few years but have never found it listed in Bowie's releases and bootlegs. It seems like it may have had something to do with the proposed (and ultimately, pulled from distribution) Bowie BBC 3 disc set that Bowie eventually released himself. The tracks do not match up and there is no interviews on this so who knows? One thing for sure - it's Bowie and it kicks ass. 14 tracks that include some of my all-time Bowie favorites like 'Wild-Eyed Boy From Freecloud', 'I'm Waiting For The Man' and 'Rock & Roll Suicide'. Hope you enjoy the disc and, as always, much more Bowie in the future.
