Bauhaus - Ziggy Stardust 12" Single



Just a little goody thrown in here for all you good children. One can never tire of either Mr. Bowie or Bauhaus, right? Of course I am right. Daddy is always right. This cover of the classic Bowie song was so well-crafted that my wife, a life-long Bowie fan but not alternative music-minded (go figure) didn't even know that it wasn't him. She has since learned to loathe Bauhaus, and about 99.9% of everything else I love to listen to. It's a good thing our love is stronger than conflicting musical tastes, eh? Only 3 songs on here so it's a quick listen, but eminently enjoyable. Also, only the nerdiest of us Bowie fanatics will get the allusion on the cover, but I do love it.

Bauhaus - In The Flat Field (1998 Re-Issue)


It has been way too long since DaddyRIch has thrown out a Bauhaus post. I got the fever again when I was looking for little-listened to tracks to fill my iPod with and said to myself ,"It has been a long time since I listened to any Bauhaus..." So here we go with a re-issue of one their best albums. Even after all the ensuing years, it seems to me that Peter Murphy's voice is the greatest instrument in the band. That is taking nothing away from the great skills of David J, Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins - they are all very accomplished. He is that rare lead singer whose voice can be all over the place during any given song but it cannot be ignored and can easily be appreciated. This album contains many of my favorite Bauhaus tunes, including Double Dare, In The Flat Field and Spy In The Cab. Hopefully a few of you will enjoy as well - I may post more Bauhaus soon, but my rarities collection of them is woefully thin. A bit more from the interwebs -

Bauhaus - Swing The Heartache: The BBC Sessions 1980-1983 (Released 1989)

These are the BBC Recordings of the great Bauhaus from the early 1980's, before any of their albums were made. Some songs were later released in slightly different forms on later LP's and singles. In my opinion Peter Murphy is is much better form here vocally than on later releases as evidenced on 'Ziggy Stardust', 'A God In An Alcove' and other gems. This is the boys with only sparse production and sans overdubs and is, therefore, a truly unique musical memoir of what it would have been like to hear them play in the early days. I have many Bauhaus bootlegs from both era's of their lifespan and very much recommend this as the top of the heap for early material. Also, 'Party of the First Part' is just pure fun.
